Botox cosmeticWhat it treats, and what it does not
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. Injected in small, measured amounts into a specific muscle, it temporarily reduces that muscle contraction. Because the lines it treats are created by repeated movement, softening the movement softens the line.
That mechanism defines what it is good for. Frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes are all produced by expression, and they respond. Lines caused by sun damage, by loss of facial volume with age, or by skin laxity are a different problem and need a different treatment. Our skin resurfacing service addresses texture, tone and scarring instead.
Botox generally carries low risk, but it is a prescription medical treatment rather than a beauty product. We review your medical history, your medications and what you actually want to change before treating, and we will say if what you are describing is not something Botox addresses.
