Venus Viva nano-fractional radiofrequency

Skin is the largest organ in the body and takes more punishment than any other. Years of sun, weather, harsh products and ordinary use leave their mark in texture, tone and scarring. Venus Viva is the resurfacing treatment we use to address that.

It works by delivering heat into the dermis through very small pins, using nano-fractional radiofrequency. Those pins create thousands of tiny controlled zones of injury which trigger the natural repair response and stimulate new collagen and elastin. Because only a fraction of the skin surface is treated and the tissue in between is left intact, healing is faster and downtime is shorter than with a fully ablative treatment.

Radiofrequency energy is not selectively absorbed by pigment the way light-based devices are, which is why this technology is considered suitable across skin tones rather than restricted to the fairest.

What it addresses

Concerns this treatment targets

Resurfacing works on texture, tone and scarring. It is a different tool from an injectable, and the two treat different problems.

  • Acne and other scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Deep lines and wrinkles
  • General skin texture

What to expect from a course

Resurfacing is a course rather than a single appointment. Collagen remodelling is slow biology: the visible change follows weeks after the treatment that caused it, and it accumulates across sessions. Your provider will set out how many sessions your concern is likely to need and how far apart they should be.

Immediately afterwards the skin looks flushed, similar to sunburn, and feels rough for a few days as the treated zones heal. Most people are comfortable in normal routine quickly, though it is worth planning treatment around anything where you would rather not be visibly pink.

Aftercare, and the part that is not negotiable

Sun protection matters more after resurfacing than at any other time, because skin that is actively remodelling responds to ultraviolet exposure with pigmentation, which is the opposite of what you paid for. Daily broad spectrum sunscreen, shade and patience are part of the treatment rather than a suggestion.

You will also be told what to keep off the skin while it settles: retinoids, acids and abrasive products all need to pause. Your provider gives you a specific plan, including what is safe to use and when to resume your usual routine.

How it fits with other treatment

Resurfacing and injectables solve different problems, and patients often want both explained before deciding. Botox softens lines created by muscle movement. Resurfacing improves the surface itself: texture, scarring, pore size and tone. Neither substitutes for the other, and knowing which one your particular concern falls under saves money and disappointment.

Skin health also has a medical side. Persistent adult acne, rosacea, unexplained changes in pigmentation and anything that looks like it is changing shape or colour need assessment rather than resurfacing, and some of them need a dermatologist. Our primary care service is the right first stop if you are unsure which category you are in.

Being realistic about the result

Resurfacing improves the appearance of scarring and texture. It does not erase a deep scar, and it will not do the job of a treatment aimed at volume or laxity. The consultation is where we look at your skin and tell you what is achievable, including when the honest answer is that another approach would serve you better.

Skin type, medical history, medications including isotretinoin, a tendency to keloid scarring and any history of cold sores all affect suitability and are covered before treatment. The American Academy of Dermatology publishes patient guidance on scar and skin resurfacing treatments.

FAQ

Skin resurfacing questions

What is Venus Viva?

A nano-fractional radiofrequency device that heats the dermis through very small pins, creating tiny controlled zones of injury that trigger the natural repair response.

What does it treat?

Scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, uneven tone and deep lines. It works on texture and tone rather than on expression lines.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Radiofrequency is not selectively absorbed by pigment as light-based treatment is, which is why it is considered suitable across skin tones. Your history and skin type are still reviewed first.

How much downtime?

Minimal compared with fully ablative resurfacing. Expect redness and a rough texture for a few days, plus strict sun protection while the skin remodels.
