Bixby sits directly south of us, which makes this one of the easier trips into the clinic. Memorial Drive or Mingo Road north brings you to 81st Street, and from most of Bixby that is a short run rather than a journey across the metro.
Bixby spans Tulsa and Wagoner counties and had a population of 28,609 at the 2020 census, up nearly 37 percent on 2010, which makes it one of the fastest growing communities in Oklahoma. It has long been known as the Garden Spot of Oklahoma for its farming heritage, and it remains a sod growing centre and a place people drive to for fresh vegetables. It also records the highest per capita income in the Tulsa metropolitan area.
Two things about Bixby show up in our caseload. The first is agricultural work. Sod farming and produce growing involve repeated bending, lifting and carrying, and that loads the lumbar spine and the shoulders in a way that office work does not. Back injuries from lifting and long-standing low back pain from years of field work are common presentations.
The second is the commute. Bixby has grown rapidly as a residential community for people who work elsewhere in the metro, which means a large share of residents spend meaningful time in a car every day. Sustained sitting in a car seat is a reliable producer of low back and neck complaints, and it is one of the most common patterns we treat.

From central Bixby, Memorial Drive north to 81st Street and then east is straightforward. From the eastern side of town, Mingo Road runs directly north to us. Either route avoids the Riverside and Highway 75 congestion on the far side of the river.
